Jean Hammelev is Vice President, Quality and Program Management Office (PMO), for Sonora Quest Laboratories, LLC (SQL) a joint venture between Quest Diagnostics (a Fortune 500 company) and Banner Health (the largest non-secular health delivery system in the U.S.) and for Laboratory Sciences of Arizona, LLC which provides oversight and strategic direction for 29 Hospital, Rapid Response, and Commercial laboratories supporting Banner Health Hospitals, Academic Medical Centers and Cancer Centers across the state of Arizona and 5 western states (California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming). Jean began her career in Phoenix as a Cytotechnologist, screening microscopic slides for cancer, at Damon Clinical Laboratories. She also worked at Good Samaritan Medical Center prior to joining LSA/SQL. Jean has been with LSA/SQL for over 28 years and has held supervisory, managerial, director and senior leader positions. She has leadership and operational experience in the areas of Cytology, Histology, Transcription, Customer Service, Logistics, Long Term Care, Patient Services, Quality Improvement and Six Sigma and was the company’s Year 2000 IT Project Manager. In March of 2000, Jean was named Executive Director of Quality and became a member of LSA’s Senior Leadership Team. She was responsible for system laboratory quality, safety, and the company’s Six Sigma process improvement programs. In 2010, Jean gained additional responsibility and was tasked with designing and implementing the company’s Program Management Office (PMO) where she currently oversees all associated activities. Jean has led her organization’s strategic planning process and was promoted to Vice President in 2015. Jean led the application process for the 2003 and the 2005 Arizona State Performance Excellence Awards Program. SQL was awarded the Pioneer Award for Quality in 2003 and in 2005; SQL received the state of Arizona’s highest quality award, the Governor’s Award for Quality. She has personally led many process improvement teams and projects throughout her career and is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and certified Lean Practitioner. Jean holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cytotechnology from the University Of North Dakota School Of Medicine and Health Sciences, Grand Forks, and a Master of Business Administration – Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix. She has served as a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Examiner for 9 years and is currently an Alumni Examiner. She serves as the Chairman of the Southwest Alliance for Excellence Board of Directors, the Arizona state based National Baldrige Performance Excellence entity. Jean is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, American College of Healthcare Executives, Arizona Healthcare Executives and is a senior member of the American Society for Quality. In 2013, Jean was recognized by the Phoenix Business Journal as one of the “Top 25 Dynamic Women in Business”.
